Okay, now that everyone has the Charles thing out of their systems ... lol ... let's take a look at one of the other great mysteries ... Gavin acting as a good, concerned "Sire" ...
I suspect on this one I am going to totally miss the mark because my ideas are too straight forward but, I think it's either Gavin going back in time to make amends or Gavin getting a major mind adjustment (pick your favorite adjuster).

Well I tend to lean towards Gavin having been adjusted ( ooooh now why has the adjustment bureau just sprung into my mind it was a terrible film), and I suspect now knowing ( sorry Larry we can't quite get away from him) that Charles is the mighty mind and given his proximity and oportunity to "meddle" with Gavin's attitude or even now knowing the one is the three may be it was the one. Oh my this is starting to sound like an episode of Babylon 5 lol with me sounding like Zathras (roflmao).
It is a hard one to nail down, because we actually have 2 Gavin's one with two timelines in his head and the one in the past.
I would guess it is a mixture of what the mind did to all the vampires in regards to how they treat her. Add in the blasts of love then of course he has the blood of the mighty mind in him now as well. Lissa's blood softened him a bit the first time he became more than vampire, how much greater effect would a mighty's power give?
The lack of the mind cloud and the shame of guilt of how he acted as well surely adds to him wanting to be gentle and making it up to her.
So in short I think it is a jumble of things, not one thing we can point at and say "That's it!"
I am mainly talking about the Gavin in the Earth (past) treating Bree quite well.
Y'all do realize that in a more than slightly twisted plot ... there could be a third time line being woven into this mess ... talk about a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
