Maybe Reah and Garvil were distined to meet at this time and place. They both in different ways had difficult childhoods. Neither had a BFF or anyone they could trust. Everyone needs someone to just listen if nothing else.
Reah has missed out on a caring family so far but as you say she now has Garvil as a brother figure and the way Karzac is treating her, he could end up being a father figure. He is SO protective over her, I know it is part of his job but he really seems to care about her and it would be great for her to have someone to turn to that is looking out for her without wanting to get mated!
I do think that Reah's family is growing and that fills several needs. No matter how hard an adult may try, you can't regain youth. Reah is an adult, prematuretly perhaps, but an adult.
I think you're right on about Gavril, and I do see that growing in the future. I'm glad that he is more like his mom and less like his dad in this area.
