Hi! First time poster but long time lurker. It's been 24 hours and a few minutes, so...onto the nuts and bolts.
Warning: Spoiler!
Karathian? Check. I figured that one out. Larentii? Check...need for sun was a giveaway, although her ability to eat was a misdirection. I'm assuming that will change. She will of course be granted a reprieve, or there would be no more books.
As far as keeping her Karanthian Warlock abilities, she appears to mirror Breanne's abilities, but how that applies to what she is now, I don't know.
I only have one plot argument, but this may be related to how Breanne had to re-do the Earth timeline at the end of the God Wars, but still...
Opal and Matt. Toward the end, it becomes clear that Matt knows something, and is aware of matters beyond Earth (he would, being so central to the God Wars plot), and Opal knew for sure what Breanne could do. Cori was nearly identical to Breanne in ability (other than the whole vampire thing), and that <should> have triggered Matt and Opal's senses, but they trod through most of the book as if this was new stuff to them. It stood out to me. Hopefully this will be explained in some way. Also, they both had extensive knowledge of the Siranelli, and should have almost immediately pinged on that based on what they were seeing, yet they did not. I knew it was Siranelli in the first book.
Next, Illya's obsession doesn't concern me in the least, as he will at some point meet Kay. Now that the Larentii cat is out of the bag, it won't take long for the major players to come back into the light. Other than that, though, it was a very enjoyable read. Certainly in line with the rest of her works, which I enjoy very much. I have read each series multiple times. they are like old friends.
Oh, and I place the timeline after the end of the God Wars by the fact that Kalengar showed up at the end to collect her. My assumption is based on the fact that he came as the head of the Larentii council, and that prior to GW, he had not been heard from in millennia.

I am loving this series, maybe I should say sub-series. I've been waiting in eager anticipation for this book's release, and Ms Connie did not disappoint. Cori is my favourite of all the series's heroines, I don't know if that is due to her not having a horrendous childhood, or just the strength and grace with which she copes with her stresses. I have noticed that the supporting characters are not enjoying the longevity of those in other series, those deaths at the end were devastating (Opal please be careful).
Well I suspected that cori was or was becoming a female laurentii as soon as the book said her hair had changed to blond and her eyes had changed to blue and was confirmed when it started mentioning the sun lamps where the series goes from here is anyone's guess but I look forward to seeing the next instalment.
Loved this book and the first one. I am not sure which of this years three story arcs I like more. Rd or first ordinance. Can't wait for book 3 in both
I liked it too. For some reason even with Opal in it, I never guessed that Cori was laurentii even with all the sun lamps.
The ending saddened me more than some of the other books endings. I know that solutions are out there. Cori will live and the curse to kill her can be lifted by Kay but it is hard to wait to read how it come out.
