Okay, let's discuss Gavin and his treatment of Lissa in Blood Wager .

Hot and cold running emotions ... the ever unpopular plane ride ... the Council chambers ... let it all out :-).

One word sums it up: Horrendous!! Do not know how Lissa could ever speak to him again after the plane ride from Hell!! Lissa trusted him and he broke her trust. To me it would be next to impossible to regain faith in him after that. However, Lissa is more forgiving than any person I know.

Well, yes!
And after he knew she only wanted a shift death, and remarked it!!

And he gave his permission for her beating!!!!!!!!

Blood Wager ended before the beating ... book 2 Blood Passage has the beating in it.

Personally I lost all respect for Gavin in Blood Wager, he shows that regardless of his feelings he is way too invested in his job. Had he put his love for Lissa before the job the plane ride could have been very different. I believe that Lissa would be an even fiercer family protector if she had one mate that she could trust implicitly, her ability to truly trust was crushed by the foolish foursome Gavin, Griffin, Merrill, and Wlodek, but that's another topic.

Pony - I see your point, but if Lissa was a person that could be that unforgiving Winker and Gavin would not have lasted through book one :-).

Just re-read Blood Wager, and fell in love with Gavin again! (sigh....)

In the days BC (before Connie) the greatest author of fantasy was John Bunyan. My favourite is 'The Holy War'. You can find it free on Gutenberg.

Don't forget that her father was manipulating her even back then. That would explain some of her ability to forgive. And, Gavin was a known quantity, she didn't know the others nearly as well. So, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Gavin had at least some good things going for him.

At least that was how I saw things.
