Clare, at that point Gavin was asking Lissa about Bree's condition and Lissa had told him that Bree was still alive and breathing on her own but not conscious yet.
Gavin was taking about Bree being his other "child" as he had already lost one child Gavril / Teeg. Gavril being the natural one and Bree being the vampire one.
Sorry Tanya, thought it was obvious that Bree was one child so could only assume you were referring to the lost child, didn't even cross my mind that Bree was under debate.
