I am more and more a fan that the Dust is less about being related to a specific alien race and more about causing you to proceed more rapidly through your future life progressions. Slightly related, it sort of makes sense to me that bad guys would reincarnate as more traditionally "bad" races, i.e. Sirenali. The only problem with this theory is that it is a bit species-ist - obviously humans tend to be the least powerful in the book universe, but this theory would possibly indicate that everyone evolving "up the scale" automatically moves *away* from human. (Having a hard time articulating this - let me know if it makes no sense.)

Also, this thread got me thinking so hard that I totally spent my last read through the RD series taking notes. Here's what i got on the abilities of most of those in the program

Rafe = Mindspeech, Shield against projectiles, Shield can also make invisible. (possible evolution: High Demon or Karathian Warlock)

Maye = hears thoughts, deadly at several martial arts, Mindspeech (possible evolution: Elemyian or Comsuli/Vampire)

Richard = Mindspeech, healing (possible evolution: Refizani? Not sure who else is known for healing)

Becker = muscle (possible evolution: no clue, any super strong bad guy races?)

Kevin = tech genius (possible evolution: no clue, not sure whay half-elemyain keeps being suggested)

Ken = tech genius (in general, the existence of Kevin/Ken blow my whole theory. They started out as twins in this lifetime, but that should have almost nothing to do with who they individually become in their next lifetime unless twins are suggested to have some kind of soul bond. IOW - no particular reason that twins would "progress" identically.)

Nick = heightened senses, turns into Wolf (werewolf - good debate on whether that was pre-Dust situation though, if it were, I would think the military knew about it, and they indicate his sense of smell was enhanced post-dust.)

Corinne = Reads people, mindspeech, power to kill with her brain, folding (Karathian Witch, later Larentii)

Part of why I like the life-progression theory so much is that if the Larentii are taking Cori into the future, we have a chance of seeing Nick and Maye in the future incarnations (a la Franklin and Shane). I really really don't want them just be dead and gone, but that's just me.

Connie has thrown us a good story here that is for sure. I can' t for the next book.

Not only was Corrine a Karathian Witch, but she was a Q'elindi ;)

Richard - I think is probably more of a Karathian Warlock with the healing ability like Wyatt and Amara

I think we can pretty much leave the Vamps and Comsuli out of the evolution theory (everyone one had genitalia and a Vamp is made (Gavril being the only born Vamp). the same for any made race like the RA'AK. just my $0.02 to the theory

Got it on my mind to change my ways, but I don't think I can be anything other than me.

The Refizani as a species aren't known for healing Karzac is a saa thalarr healer which his home planet is Refizan. Don't forget that Joey is also a healer and human before becoming vampire so are vampires known for healing too? No... so to be a healer you need power not just a species . So that means Richard could be anything although Larentii are also healers by species.

Hello all! New the the fan site, but I'm a HUGE fan of Connie's books! It's been a while since I read Lissa's story, Ashe's story, Breanne's story & the God Wars, so I couldn't for the freaking life of me figure out the sun lamps! LOL I KNEW I knew what was going on there, but heck if I could figure it out!

With that being said, I cannot wait for the 3rd book! So excited to see what happens next.

And, I'm also dying to know what R-D stands for? I'm sure I should know it, but alas, I'm baffled at the moment. Not sure if that's been discussed somewhere on the board yet, but I didn't notice it anywhere.
