Why Bill? Yes, Breanne is gaa gaa for Trajan, but I thought it was more Kay who seemed inclined towards Bill Jennings. (She won't let anyone else near her by the end of the book, remember?)
I thought Breanne couldn't read him. She also liked him and mentioned him when Trajan came back to apologize for him ditching her after Ashe freaked out. Bill expressed serious interest in her as well when speaking to Ashe and to Trajan.
I have a weird methodology - I skim the previous book the day before, read the new book when it comes out, and then go re-read the previous in detail, enjoying the parts where I better understand what's going on.
This is from Blood Double, so Not a spoiler, but I can't believe I missed this the first time around!
Another possible mate? Gavin.
"Jarnis* also said I could have Breanne if I wanted. As a mate. I have a mate. I don't need another." Gavin emptied his glass in one swallow.
"Dude, I don't think Breanne would have you if you were covered in gold," Drew snorted.
(* reminder - Jarnis is the Nameless One who dropped Breanne at the palace in the first place.)
I guess I can see part of Gavin's anger being denial of this potential relationship/fighting against it. Though "could have as mate" is not the same as a M'Fiyah, and Breanne never seems to wax poetical about how yummy Gavin is, so... ::shrug::
Also from re-reading:
- Dormas/Dee is out, Breanne can read him
- Thought she could read Corent as well, still checking.
