True, makes you wonder if Kifirin influenced Garde's need to control Reah to help keep her isolated.

Here is a section on Garde's feelings when told by Kirifin that Tory's mating marks might be removed if he hurt Reah.
"What?" Garde Sputtered. Now that it came to it, he didn't want Reah to leave the family. Didn't want her away from his grasp. Out of his control.

"Now do you begin to see it?" Kifirin asked. "You control the fate of the High Demon race if you control Reah. How long have you been angry, Gardevik Rath? At your child? At Reah? Because some foolishness separated them. You keep her hidden away because you fear just what I said. That some High Demon male may come along and turn her head, taking control away from you. You choose to leave her in groves instead of housing her at the palace, where she should have been. None have thought to question why Reah has no High Demons working with her on the plantation either. But it's true, is it not? She depends upon humanoids for help. There are more than enough High Demon males lazing about who might assist her, but you, as Jayd's Prime Minister will not send them. If I allow Reah to produce more daughters with another house, then that could endanger the ruling house. Isn't that right?"

So we see one reason fro Garde's treatment of Reah.

Another thought for you all to consider or perhaps it's two really. Earlier in the series I thinks it was Balen stated that Kifrin had to act as his nature dictated occasionally, I know this is not an exact quote but we have to remember Kifrin is The Lord of the dark realms and as such may not always act as we would expect. Also consider that the God wars are fast approaching so may not there be influence of those apposed to the one and the three mighty occurring in order to weaken the threes forces

I think Kifirin must have done something to Lisa as he basically took her son (Gavril)away from her and Gavin and made them miss him growing up. The Lissa in the Blood Destiny series would have Kicked Kifirin to hell and back for that, this Lissa apart from a mild threat to him hasn't done a thing.

I have to agree with mouse it's sort of out of character for Lissa but we've seen how forgiving Lissa can be at times so it's not completely out there that she might forgive Kifirin for taking Gavril and Gavin isn't stupid enough to attack a god. I just hope that Kifirin has finally crossed a line with Lissa and she finally beats his sorry ass or divorces him if possible. Also it doesn't matter if Kifirin has to act on his nature as lord of the dark realm what matters to the other like him was that he broke his promise not to interfere. Out side the Mighty's I don't think the rest of the god care who it hurts as long as the end goal is achieved. As you might recall Belen used Reah as well in Demon's Quest he was just more subtle about it putting the Ra'ak's deeds in front of her and letting her make her own choice to hunt them down.

Hmm I have to agree with you eaglechild, to a point but are other things to consider we were not told exactly what happened in the meeting where lissa was told not to go looking for gavril/teeg the book was rather tight lipped about what happened perhaps a 3rd party was involved in that meeting ? And as you've stated the other powers/lesser gods have shown a tendency to break or bend the rules on occasion. As we have all seen our mz suttle has been able to throw curve balls at us in the past which only make sense in later books, so lissa's apparent docility where reah's treatment is concerned could have another meaning. As for Kifrin perhaps interfering with lissa remember she is Kifrin's equal and she has not promised not to interfere so in fact she has a lot more scope than Kifrin.
