I partly agree with you Clare. But in Blood Reunion we also saw that Lissa's children had indeed a lot respect for their mother and always "feared" to get grounded.
Their own character also plays a big role in that, it doesn't depend only on Lissa. I think Teeg lost much and he couldn't fully enjoy his childhood, as we know he was taken with-what?-16?
However, I agree that Lissa should have done something... I don't know exactly what but just something.
I don't think lissa is responsible for the actions of her sons as Ryeland seems to have worked out fine, also this business of gavrils soul drain seems in large part responsible for some of his actions (not that I agree with them). Torys actions could in part be racial and immaturity given the long lifespan of demons, from the brief appearances he appears to have mended some of his ways and appears more mature.
Every parent is responsible for raising their children, instilling values, educating them, and when the time comes letting them lead their own lives ... what those children do with their lives at that point are their own responsibility. Lissa and Gavin never ignored Teeg when he asked for help or failed to offer advice ... after your children grow up that is all you can do, trying to send your adult children to their room is futile and makes you look ridiculous.
As Queen of Le-Ath Veronis she has no jurisdiction on Campiaa ... just as Teeg has no jurisdiction on Le-Ath Veronis, and he was taken to task for acts against Trevor and Cooper.
So while I feel for Lissa, Gavin, Reah, and company ... I still have to point the blame directly on Teeg. I feel that had he, at any point, asked for help things could have turned out better.
Reading is a gift to yourself that you can share with everyone.
@Robby, Rylend went off to study on Grey planet at a fairly early age and only returned home for short periods which grew less as he got older. The two that spent the most amount of time with their Mother was Gavril and Tory... the two "bad" ones. Although we often read of the fear of being grounded, at no point did we see Lissa being anything other than the doting Mother. We also read that she was unhappy at her children being taken away to study on other worlds but we didn't see her fight that hard to change it. She is the Queen, and much more to boot, if she REALLY wanted them to be with her more she could have done something about it. I disagree that Teeg was taken to task regarding Trevor and Cooper, for one that was Gavin's doing and not Teeg and for second it was merely mentioned well after Lissa found out what he had done and at no point was he asked to remove that compulsion. As Queen of Le-Ath Veronis, no, she has no jurisdiction on Campiaa, however, he is also her subject as well as her son and had involvement with her other subjects, that gives her more than ample reason and justification to do something. On many occasions she is heard to disagree with some of the things Teeg has said and done but at no point does she tackle him about it. To my mind, as his Mother that makes her also partly to blame for his treatment of Reah and Bree. She knew and did nothing when it was within her power to do something. Lissa is by no means alone in the neglect to act but as this was about her and not others that is why she has been singled out.
Ryland and Tory were the inseparable ones...... Teeg/Gavril was the younger brother that got left out.
Gavril was a great kid until he was stolen from the influence of Lissa. By the time Lissa got him "back" he was over 70 years old and in charge of a multi-world alliance. At that point he was so secretive and wouldn't let anyone in and he was hardly visiting anyway.
Tory was fine except for his prejudice which caused all the stupid actions, and that he got from his father.
To be fair , Ryland probably got most of his goodness from his father/genetics, since he is so similar to Erland.
To blame their actions on their mother....... I just don't see it. I am going to put the blame on the General for causing him going bad and Teeg himself for hiding all of it. I don't see anything Lissa could have done to help.
As far as taking him to task for the compulsion, she WAS in the process, then was interrupted by his dying and soul theft coming to light. If you want to blame a parent for not getting it done sooner blame Gavin for helping Teeg to hide it from Lissa

Totally agree with David. But to be honest i wouldnt even blame Gavin. To me the only guilty one is the general he started something which snowballed out of control and no one could have helped anyhow had they discovered what was wrong.
