Well we know it ends when the person dies yes...... But..... What holds it, or what is broken when they die........

If the compulsion is tied to body, then it will be gone.....

But what if compulsion is kept going by a connection to the soul...... If that is the case..... Teeg's soul is still very much in the mortal realm.

Like I said, it could go either way, I don't think Connie ever defined where the compulsion was tethered, only that it goes away at death, where normally the soul would pass on to the other side.

It will also be interesting to see if his MiFiyah is still active, I wouldn't be surprised if it was......

@ David I seem to recall that the M'Fiyah is decided before they are born, so that implies it is a soul thing, so I imagine it is soul linked, as it hasn't been clearly stated though that could be an incorrect supposition.

@Charles Lissa took Teeg to task? I really don't recall her doing anything more than have a brief word with him, letting him know she was too mad to talk. It wouldn't be the first time my goldfish memory strikes though, it's just that for the life of me I don't recall her taking him to task at all, unless we have differing definitions of that.

@Alfred I thought that too, but I also seen to remember reading discussion over the Star Brothers and how/who was going to explain the compulsion, this took place AFTER Teeg had died and while Teeg 2.0 was in place. To my mind this implies that the compulsion is still in place. I have to say though that the whole thing is rather ambiguous.

Well, I think having your mother walk away from you, after chewing you up one side then down the other, saying that she failed raising you is well and truly being brought task. Imagine how that would make you feel, would it be something that would make you step back and think? Then have your adoptive father point blank agree with your mother ... I imagine that short of punishment, it would be difficult to be brought more to task.

take somebody to task -
to criticize someone angrily for something that they have done (often + for )

Yeah, definitely differing definitions. I wouldn't class what she said as angry, for me there as no anger involved. Heck, when I was growing up I would have had more aggro than that for not washing the dishes correctly! Don't get me wrong in saying this, i'm not trying to imply that i'm right and you are wrong, more that I need to re-evaluate my own upbringing. Things seem far gentler in the US to what i'm used to. For the record, I prefer the gentler way and is more in line with how I raised my own son. A good beating, wether hand/fists or belt/cane was the norm in my childhood, as was shouting, screaming and belittling. I never hit my Son, although am guilty of shouting at him upon occasion, usually when he had infuriated me to the point of no return. If I was REALLY angry I would barely say a word and remain disturbingly calm. He knew he was in big trouble then! His Dad could and still can just give a look. I wish I had the power of "The Look".

Don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in discipline, including spankings but excluding abuse ... an adult using a fist and / or cane on a child is abuse in my book. Although I would still take Norian out behind the woodshed for a little attitude adjustment ... but he is not a child.

Anywho ... back on topic ... I still believe that Teeg could have "saved" himself by talking with his mates and mother, by not allowing his upbringing (birth - 17) to have any sway over his despot side he brought his doom on himself. We have seen lots of instances where the bad / evil side has gotten the drop on the good side while the good side prevails ... the one thing you can do to ensure that evil will always win is nothing.

when did this soul-draining thing actually start?

I'm wondering what was Teeg himself and what not.
