Commenting about Reah's friends, I think Drake and Drew were her friends in the earlier books (not sure if they were in Demon's Revenge). They may not have been really close but stood by her. I also agree that Karzac has been a good friend to her.
I hate to say this but if Reah isn't broken on some level after everything that happened during and before Demon's Revenge then she made of something no one can even begin to understand. Let's recap, abandoned by her mate(whether or not their fault still did damage), strip of her daughters(I don't care if she was able to see them each night they were taken from her), basically banished to Kifirin's southern continent(once again it may not have play out that way but that's how it ended), force to take care of the injured and their family's(which in my opinion was rubbing in the fact she had been stripped of her own), paying for everything from food and medicine to farming supplies(ok that one was more a financial issue but it probably did help her stress levels), Bel's abduction (she cares about him plain and simple I'm not sure how far that care goes but it's there), Tory coming back and for lack of a better word attacking her, The Royal family(Garde, Jayde, and Glinda need more be said), her family and mate steal from her (I'm sure that crushed any trust she had left to spare), witnessing who knows how many slave being controlled, her own attempted rape and attack(god know that shouldn't happen to anyone), killing of countless controlled slaves because she didn't have a choice, I'm sure the fact Teeg was the one responsible for the controllers hurt a lot, Kifirins confession topped it off and finally the loss of everything that mattered to her finished it off(when the bitch stole her rings and destroyed her daughters gifts). If I missed anything let me know because this list is already pretty long. Anyway the point is no one would be able to take this and not have some permanent damage done and if she is broken on some level those scars are going to run very very deep. So while I hope she is able to recover in the coming up book unless someone mess with her head, which would be so wrong, she'll probably never been the same, no one could be.
I agree Eaglechild. To go through what she did and be un-scarred would be a mark of a very strong character or mind/emotion changing by the Larentii or others.
At the end of Demon's revenge, the description definitely sounds like Reah is broken:
"Nefrigar had come. I could barely see him through my tears and the sobs wouldn't stop. I couldn't stop them, somehow. Something was broken and I didn't know how to fix it. The blow had come, as it does in any fight, when you can't take the beating any longer and you fall to your knees, beaten and uncaring what happens to you after that."
Of side interest is Nefrigar's statement that she will be all she has (assuming he means as in a mate).
So he definitely will want to protect her and have her heal. Question is how far? Larentii can work on the mind and emotion.
From what I can understand the Larentii don't so much mess with emotions as read them and provide what is needed to help the person, as long as it doesn't go against there no interference rule. Either that or the Larentii are able to speed up the healing process. From the way the Larentii have been depicted so far I don't think they have the heartlessness to mess with a persons head to that extent for their own gain even their own life, it would just be so far out of character for anyone of the Larentii we know. As for Nefrigar's statement, provided I'm think of the same one as Jballaustin, I think he meant he would end up separating his own particles if he lost her.
In all honesty I'm more interested at this point as to how her other mates are going to get her back(well the ones that deserve to be with her), don't get me wrong they'll all lay the blame on Kifirin where it belongs, but as Reah has said it herself you can't turn off those hurt feelings over night. Not to mention one mate is responsible for the whole mess to start with.
Also this is just something I wanted others opinion on but besides sitting on the sidelines for 25 years has Rylend done anything to hurt Reah?
Ry to my knowledge has never done harm to reah, and if I read demons revenge right Ryan had tried to help through the likes of dee and I suspect that Difik Kifrin may have muted his " bond " to Reah tho at the time he wasn't a mate.
On another note, I think Teeg's use of the controller technology and it's subsequent role in Revenge is a bit more important than I have been thinking. The controllers killed Reah's great-grandmother as well as other High Demon females (though I don't think Reah is aware of that yet), forced Reah to be a virtual slave to Teeg, damn near got her killed, and then started the monster conspiracy for Demon's Revenge with all the damage incurred there.
What kind of person jams a controller into their mate? That's "barefoot and pregnant" carried to a terrible extreme.
